We hypothesize that sensitive acoustic properties ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs)–a known as SubHarmonic Aided Pressure Estimation (SHAPE)–adequately estimates benchtop phantom pressures. METHODS: The designed simulates non-voiding contractions (NVCs) variable compliance. Laboratory made equivalent commercial UCA diluted 0.9 % normal saline (0.08 v/v) infused using equipment (30 ml/min). Simultaneous subharmonic signal scattered UCAs acquired with scanner (GE LOGIQ E10 C2-9 probe SHAPE mode) calibrated linear fit yield values. For the compliance model, measurements are obtained at 10 cmH2O increments while NVC model continuously. RESULTS: Examples tracings estimations two models shown. maximum absolute errors NVCs less than 8 (8 %) 16 (16 %), respectively. mean R−squared values both (n=4) R2=0.89±0.09. CONCLUSIONS: Subharmonic can strongly correlated This first step towards creating catheter-free voiding measurement SHAPE. Gene delivery using ultrasound contrast agents.
With the human genome product and continuing advances in molecular biology many therapeutic genes have been discovered. In the cardiovascular system, gene therapy has the potential to improve myocardial vascularization and ameliorate congestive heart failure. For successful development of clinical gene therapy, however, effective gene delivery vectors are needed. Ultrasound contrast agents can ...
متن کاملVisualization of multimodal polymer-shelled contrast agents using ultrasound contrast sequences: an experimental study in a tissue mimicking flow phantom
BACKGROUND A multimodal polymer-shelled contrast agent (CA) with target specific potential was recently developed and tested for its acoustic properties in a single element transducer setup. Since the developed polymeric CA has different chemical composition than the commercially available CAs, there is an interest to study its acoustic response when using clinical ultrasound systems. The aim o...
متن کاملQuantification of Ultrasound Contrast Agents Using High Frequency Ultrasound
Ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs) are small microbubbles filled with gas. Because of their scattering properties, UCAs enhance the diagnostic capabilities of ultrasonic imaging. UCAs are associated with therapeutic or enhancing therapeutic applications of ultrasound and with possible adverse bioeffects. Quantification of the in vivo concentration of microbubbles is therefore essential to establ...
متن کاملAdvances in Ultrasound Mediated Gene Therapy Using Microbubble Contrast Agents
Microbubble ultrasound contrast agents have the potential to dramatically improve gene therapy treatments by enhancing the delivery of therapeutic DNA to malignant tissue. The physical response of microbubbles in an ultrasound field can mechanically perturb blood vessel walls and cell membranes, enhancing drug permeability into malignant tissue. In this review, we discuss literature that provid...
متن کاملEnhanced targeting of ultrasound contrast agents using acoustic radiation force.
Contrast-enhanced ultrasound has shown significant promise as a molecular imaging modality. However, one potential drawback is the difficulty that ultrasound contrast agents (UCA) may have in achieving adhesion to target molecules on the vascular endothelium. Microbubble UCA exhibit a lateral migration toward the vessel axis in laminar flow, preventing UCA contact with the endothelium. In the c...
